Renewable Gases Pilot –
Powering the Transition to a Circular Energy Future
What is the pilot about?
The Renewable Gases Pilot explores how innovation in biogas and green hydrogen can transform regional energy systems in Central Europe. By focusing on production, integration, and real-world applications, the pilot aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable gas technologies and foster cross-regional collaboration.
Developed through insights from the GREET CE stakeholder survey, this pilot builds on innovative regional companies, research initiatives, and technological concepts with high replication potential. Three promising value chains have been identified based on regional interest and innovation capacity. Together, they aim to accelerate the development, deployment, and market uptake of renewable gas technologies across Central Europe.
Within the pilot we address
1.
Wastewater Biogas and Biomethane
Transforming organic waste and wastewater residues into clean energy through advanced anaerobic digestion and upgrading technologies.
2.
Green Hydrogen for Mobility
Decarbonising public transport and freight logistics through the production and use of green hydrogen as a clean, renewable fuel.
3.
Hydrogen from Waste for Industrial Use (Waste-to-Hydrogen)
Converting industrial and municipal waste into hydrogen to supply hard-to-decarbonise industries with renewable energy sources.
4.
Crowdlending-Enabled Financing Models
Developing innovative financing approaches that bundle energy projects and unlock alternative capital to support renewable gas investments.
